Assessment and Injection Therapy Service

The Assessment and Injection Therapy Service assesses, diagnoses, and offers a range of treatments for patients with musculoskeletal conditions. The Assessment and Injection Therapy Service works closely with local clinics and secondary care services, allowing for appropriate and timely referrals when indicated.

The service offers a primary care based integrated approach to the expert assessment and management of musculoskeletal patients.

  • Injection Therapy

Onwards referrals to community or secondary care services.

The service has four clinical staff, including GP’s (special interest in MSK), a Physiotherapist and a Consultant Surgeon

FAQs

What should I bring to my appointment?

Please bring a list of medication you are on

What does the Clinician need to know?

Please let them know if you have any electrical implants or if you are pregnant.

Please make sure your INR is less than 2.5 if you are anticipating a steroid injection.

If you are taking Apixiban, Rivaroxaban, or Edoxoban please do not take them the day before or the day of your injection.

If you have had a vaccination less than two weeks before your appointment, please contact our administration team to alter your appointment date.

What happens during my appointment?

  • Our clinician will assess you.
  • A plan of action will be discussed and implemented.
  • You will be here for 30 minutes.

How will any follow-ups be arranged?

If our clinician requests any diagnostic imaging our administrative team will arrange a follow-up appointment as soon as we receive the results.

If you have an injection, we will not arrange any scheduled follow-up, however, if within twelve weeks you feel no improvement, please contact our administrative team for advice.

What do I do if I cannot attend my appointment?

If you are unable to attend your appointment, please contact our team as soon as possible.

What happens if I do not attend my appointment?

If you fail to attend without advising our administrative team, you may be discharged, and your doctor informed.
